The Basketball Tournament Prediction Extravaganza is a nationwide prediction competition between basketball fans based upon the Annual Men's College Basketball Tournament. We feel the clean family humor, salty wit and sarcasm, and interesting year-to-year statistics make the 'Ganza, as we affectionately call it, one of the most enjoyable tournament contests on the Internet. We hope you join us and come to the same conclusion.

Although the format is similar to an office "pool," the Extravaganza is NOT a pool -- no prize money is awarded! In fact, our slogan is "This Ain't No Pool!" The prognosticator who scores the most points in the 'Ganza is awarded the
Coveted Ostertag Plaque, one of the finest examples of laminated pressboard available and easily the most talked about sports award in my house. The Ostertag Plaque has often been mentioned in the same sentence as the Lombardi Trophy and the Stanley Cup. Especially if you read the previous sentence out loud.

Wimp Factor to the Rescue

The Sweet 16 in this year's tournament contains only TWO teams seeded higher than 4th: Purdue in the West (a five seed), and Arizona in the Midwest (a twelve seed).

This will likely drive scores of 'Ganza Prognosticators in the same direction of the next Pixar movie that the Pooh-Bah can't wait to see, since we are typically high in the wimp factor category in the 'Ganza.

The first round jinx may just take the year off, with both Patricia Thomas and Bruce Hammersmith in the top two spots on the standings, after leading the pack with 28 points after the first round.
I'm happy to report that, at least for now, I am ahead of both my Brass Counterparts. But as all you veterans know by now, a few games either way can cause drastic changes in the standings.
Let us know what you think by posting comments -- see related Blogging 101 message sent separately.

Blahg about who's going to emerge from the Sweet 16 to the Final 4, or better yet, Blahg about the BGP Brass!

i think the people want the BGP brass to do video, whether that be a music video, an exclusive interview, or highlights from Pooh vs. Deputy in a game of H-O-R-S-E.

Yes, the Brass are due for a new music video. We are waiting for the opportunity to get together for filming -- Director Bill needs to be in this one. And your HORSE idea is a good one. Deputy Pooh, are you game?

Pixar had made a number of good movies.

Has anyone noticed that there is not a prognosticator from ND in the top 10? Did everyone from ND have the Bison making the elite 8 like our Grand benevolent Pooh-Bah?

Thankfully Dustin and Dawn have now rectified that situation by passing all the Montana Prognosticators with very un-pooh-bah-like picks!
